Turning Music into Scholarships
The Florida College Alumni Chorus Booster Club exists to provide scholarships to students who are enrolled at Florida College in the Music Department. The booster club is a unique group of alumi who have also participated in Florida College's vocal music programs. Each year the participants use their talents to produce beautiful recordings of a cappella hymns and spiritual songs. The sales of CDs and funds received from streaming services provide funding for annual scholarships to assist the next generation of Florida College students with their tuition needs.
Over $185,000 has been donated from the sale of our music that is now enjoyed by listeners around the world.
Our Beginning
Choral Director James "Dudy" Walker retired in 1993 after 41 years of teaching music at Florida College. In honor of Dudy's retirement, an alumni chorus was organized and made its first recording in 1993. The same year, the group formed the "Florida College Alumni Chorus Booster Club".
Some participants have sung for every recording for almost 30 years.
Our 2010 album, "The Lord Reigns" was dedicated to Dudy Walker for his dedication to Florida College, the Alumni Chorus, and God.
Continuing the Legacy
Each year, volunteers from across the nation gather to sing hymns for our albums. We generally meet the Friday and Saturday after Florida College Lectures to rehearse and record. The volunteer director and board members work throughout the year to prepare music selections and copyrights. Following the recording the director and board members work with our recording professionals to master the album and prepare it for release.
